Elong'o Writers' Festivals
11th March 2023
Elong’o Writers’ Festival revolves around talent nurturing through storytelling and is created for the enthusiastic and curious. It aims at bringing people from all walks of life to come together, and share their passions. While most people think that writers’ festival is all about books, we must say that there is so much more than just a gathering of hardcore book lovers. Elong’o Writers’ festivals bring together people who share common passions and who have ideas to discuss about them. You don’t have to be an author or even someone who reads a lot to attend a writers’ festival.
Count down to our next EWF
Elong’o Writers’ Festival (EWF) is proposed to occur annually in different town within Kenya over the second weekend of March every year. It will be a large gathering of young and innovative writers working in both new and traditional forms including screenwriter, poetry, spoken word, autobiography, biography, all types of narratives (drama, short story, mystery, fantasy, historical, mythology, anthology, suspense/thriller, crime, fan fiction, realistic fiction), Self-help writing, Essay, Speech, shairi, tamthlia, riwaya, and prose, together with the iconic Authors in our society who have great experience in the industry.
EWF presents ‘writing’ in its broadest sense through panels, discussions, workshops, book launches, performances and readings and writing competition. It gives young and upcoming writers a place to present their work and share ideas, to learn about the industry in which they write and to meet with like-minded people in a friendly festival atmosphere. The festival also encourages the accumulation of articles that are written on the daily basis to be published; this will ensure that the knowledge that is shared in those articles will be documented for future generations, for example articles that focus on ending FGM.
This will be a one-day festival. It is intended to have presentations from selected key speakers, Panel discussions followed by award winning session in the evening.
Discussion session– a panel made of iconic authors will tackle a range of thematic topics, as well as lively engagement of the audience at this point so as to get their input.
Awarding session– the winners from our 29 categories will get awarded at the end of the session.
Our mission is to foster a universal passion for reading by partnering with authors and writers to help create and communicate ideas and stories that inform, entertain, inspire the world alongside connect them with readers everywhere. We aim at telling African stories in an African way.
